McNeese Names Frank Wilson Head Football Coach
Courtesy of McNeese Athletics Sports InformationLAKE CHARLES, La. – McNeese announced on Thursday morning that it has hired former LSU associate head coach and UTSA head coach Frank Wilson as the program’s 17th head coach.A formal announcement will be made on Friday with a noon press conference in the Endzone Club which is located on the second floor of the Jack Doland Field House. The public is invited to attend.A Louisiana native, Wilson comes to McNeese after serving four seasons as the head coach at UTSA where he guided the young program to its first-ever bowl game in his first season at the helm.Widely considered one of the top recruiters in college football, Wilson spent six seasons at LSU, serving as an associate head coach in his final four years while also coaching the running backs coach and as the program’s recruiting coordinator. He was vital to LSU’s success both on and off the field helping the Tigers to four seasons of at least 10 wins, while also annually orchestrating one of the nation’s top recruiting classes.In six years as LSU’s recruiting coordinator, Wilson engineered signing classes that ranked among the top 10 in the nation five times, including the No. 2 rated class in 2014. LSU’s 2014 signing class featured the consensus No. 1 rated player in the nation in Leonard Fournette and the No. 1 rated wide receiver (Malachi Dupre). LSU had the No. 6 rated class in 2011 and the seventh-ranked class in 2013 and the No. 8 ranked class in 2015. Wilson was named as the 2011 Recruiter of the Year by Rivals.com.
